Natural Male Enhancement, Enlargement & Impotence Products

Review: Maxaman & Zenerx
Two Popular Herbal Supplements Compared

You May Be Shocked At What We Found in our Review of Maxaman & Zenerx!

There are several herbal ED cures on the market that contain ingredients that have been shown to work like Viagra and have long term positive effects on all aspects of a mans sexual health.

The positive benefits natural herbal supplements provide by increasing erection ability, size, and fullness, as well as treating impotence, are many. They can include bigger, stronger erections, greater sexual performance, increased libido, and better overall health.

There are many male enhancement/impotence products on the market, but buyers should beware of formulations that use potentially hazardous ingredients and manufacturers that do not honor product guarantees (see review criteria for details).

In this review, we examined two of the most popular herbal male enhancement/impotence products: Maxaman and Zenerx.

Review Criteria

Safe, Effective Herbal Ingredients

Our review only included ingredients where we found multiple scientific studies vs. anecdotal evidence to support it's positive effect on functions that are important to producing a strong, full erection, increased libido, and to treat impotence issues. This is not to say that other herbs are not effective, only that we have research backing those listed.

Shilajit (Viagra effect)

The anti-stress and adjuvant effects of Shilajit have been evaluated in numerous Indian studies. Shilajit provides an anti-oxidant defense against several reactive oxygen types. Processed Shilajit provides complete protection to methacrylate against hydroxyl radical-induced polymerization, and acts as a reversible nitric oxide-captodative agent. These findings are consistent with therapeutic uses of Shilajit as an ayurvedic (rejuvenator) against oxidative stress and geriatric complaints of erectile dysfunction.

Horny Goat Weed (Viagra effect)

Horny goat weed has been used for over 2000 years as a sexual and reproductive tonic. It acts to increase erection ability, size, and fullness.

Horny goat weed contains a flavonoid called icariin. Icariin is a cGMP-specific PDE5 inhibitor like Viagra, Cialis and Levitra, as demonstrated in a 1984 University of Peking study.

It also functions as an adaptogen by increasing levels of epinephrine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine when they are low-promoting energy-but reduces cortisol levels when elevated (an anti-stress effect), which causes fatigue and depresses sex drive.

Finally, horny goat weed can restore low levels of both testosterone and thyroid hormone back to normal, improving sex drive.

Muira Puama

This South American herb has been used for centuries to treat weak libido and erectile dysfunction. Two recent French studies supported it's effect on impotence.

In one study of men treated with muira puama extract, 62% reported it had a dynamic effect on their libido, while 51% with erectile dysfunction said that it was beneficial to their treatment.

In a second study, muira puama extract was given to 100 men with sexual asthenia. Of these, 85% reported an increased libido, while 90% reported an increased ability to maintain erection.

Allium Sativum - Garlic (Viagra effect)

Yes, good old garlic. In two different 1998 studies-one from the National University of Mexico and another from the Institute of Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmacy in Munich, Germany-garlic was shown to "activate nitric oxide synthase", or enhance the nervous system's ability to react to nitric oxide.

Also, there are multiple studies compiled by the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute demonstrating garlic’s aid in preventing and having curative effects on several medical conditions which often cause ED. These conditions include high blood pressure, heart disease, hypertension and atherosclerosis.

Mucuna Pruriens

Mucuna pruriens works as a prolactin inhibitor, a growth hormone stimulant, and to increase testosterone.

A US patent was filed in 2002 on the use of mucuna pruriens to stimulate the release of growth hormone in humans. High levels of l-dopa in the mucuna seed are converted to dopamine, which stimulates the release of growth hormone by the pituitary gland. L-dopa and dopamine are effective prolactin inhibitors.

Increased levels of prolactin are considered responsible for 70% of erection failure in men. In one study, ingestion of the seeds in 56 males improved erection, duration of coitus, and post-coital satisfaction after four weeks of treatment. It also promotes spermatogenic effects in men, improving sperm count and motility.

Tribulus Terrestris

Tribulus is a natural testosterone enhancer. It is also said to be an excellent circulatory system tonic, and can help build muscles and strength.

Clinical studies on the sexual activity-enhancing effect of tribulus have shown it to contain protodioscin, a saponin constituent, improving libido in men with impotence due to various causes, libido in women with menopausal symptoms, and sperm motility in infertile and subfertile men.

In another study involving 59 men, ages 22-67 and suffering from a range of sexual dysfunctions, an increase in sexual desire and fantasies, as well as sexual self-confidence, was reported in almost all patients. The subjective experience of pleasure, joy and satisfaction was reported in 80%, erection improved in over 75%, and the duration of intercourse before ejaculation was prolonged in 25%.

Ashwagandha

Here is what the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center said in their Ashwagandha Clinical Summary:

"It (Ashwagandha) is also used as a general tonic, to increase energy and improve health and longevity...  Ashwagandha has shown...antioxidant effects in the brain and...a tranquilizing effect on the central nervous system in animals...human studies suggest Ashwagandha may promote growth in children and improve hemoglobin concentration, red blood cell count, and sexual performance in adults".

Non-Herbal Ingredients

Zenerx does not contain additives.

Maxaman does not contain additives.

Herbal Ingredients for Overall Health & Help ED Conditions

There are multiple causes of impotence and low sex drive, ranging from mild (low sex drive, weak erections, lack of energy, slow and weak ejaculation) to severe (total inability to achieve erection and complete lack of sexual desire).

These causes can be:

  • Cardiovascular (i.e. restricted blood flow, high blood pressure, heart disease, hypertension, and atherosclerosis)
  • Renal or urological
  • Nutritional (i.e. malnutrition, vitamin or mineral deficiency)
  • Endocrine (i.e. low testosterone or high prolactin)
  • Neurological
  • Muscular & tissue-related
  • Psychological (i.e. stress, anxiety, etc.
Increasing your health in these areas, you can often resolve sexual dysfunction issues. This is perhaps where natural herbal supplements provide the greatest benefit to a man's total sexual performance.

Rating effect on overall health and sexual performance:

Minimal - Ingredients primarily provide support for an erection, with limited benefits in other important areas.

Moderate - Ingredients provide some additional benefits to ED-related conditions and overall health.

Significant - Ingredients provide significant preventative/help benefits to other ED-causing conditions and overall male health.

Potentially Dangerous Ingredients

We reviewed the ingredients in each supplement and cross-checked the ingredients against ingredients identified by the FDA as "Supplement Ingredients With Concerns".

The one common ingredient on this list is Yohimbe, which is considered dangerous and is an ingredient in a number of male enhancement/impotence products on the market.

Our recommendation is to avoid any product containing Yohimbe. There are many other alternative ingredients that have proven effective and are safe.

Source: FDA "Illnesses and Injuries Associated With the Use of Selected Dietary Supplements"

Yohimbe (Pausinystalia yohimbe)

Yohimbe is a tree bark containing a variety of pharmacologically active chemicals. It is marketed in...products for body building and "enchanced male performance". Serious adverse effects, including renal failure, seizures and death, have been reported to FDA with products containing yohimbe and are currently under investigation.

The major identified alkaloid in yohimbe is yohimbine, a chemical that causes vasodilation, thereby lowering blood pressure. Yohimbine is also a prescription drug in the United States. Side effects are well recognized and may include central nervous system stimulation that causes anxiety attacks. At high doses, yohimbine is a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor. MAO inhibitors can cause serious adverse effects when taken concomitantly with tyramine-containing foods (e.g., liver, cheeses, red wine) or with over-the-counter (OTC) products containing phenylpropanolamine, such as nasal decongestants and diet aids. Individuals taking yohimbe should be warned to rigorously avoid these foods and OTC products because of the increased likelihood of adverse effects.

Yohimbe should also be avoided by individuals with hypotension (low blood pressure), diabetes, and heart, liver or kidney disease. Symptoms of overdosage include weakness and nervous stimulation followed by paralysis, fatigue, stomach disorders, and ultimately death.

Zenerx does not contain Yohimbe or any other "Ingredients of Concern"

In our review we found that Maxaman Contains Yohimbe, all other ingredients are considered safe. However because it contains Yohimbe we do not recommend it's use.

Another ingredient that is used in Maxaman is oyster meat. While oyster meat is considered safe, you should avoid this if you have an allergic reaction to seafood and shellfish.

Other Factors

Product Guarantee

It is important that manufacturers stand behind their product with a money-back guarantee. The fact is each individual is different, and some formulations may work better than others for conditions that may cause impotence, small, or weak erections. That's why a 100% guarantee is a must and the manufacturer must follow through with that guarantee.

Made in The United States

By purchasing from companies that only manufacture in the US, you ensure that ingredients are as labeled. Most supplements with other medicinal or non-herbal substances added (such as sildenafil citrate) have been manufactured outside of the US by questionable companies

Check to make sure that the supplement is manufactured in the US and is not sold by a US company importing from abroad. The Vinarol recall is a recent example of this practice.

Known FDA Complaints or Recall for the Specific Product

We checked to see if there are any known product complaints or recalls registered with the FDA for each of the products reviewed.

No FDA complaints or recalls were found for either product.

Known Better Business Bureau Complaints

We check with the Better Business to determine if there are any complaints and the resolution of the complaints.

Maxaman had no complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau.

Zenerx had no complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau.

Potentially Misleading Claims

Because we expect companies to shine a positive light on their product, we give them the benefit of the doubt on subjective information. Because every individual is different, results of any herbal supplement or pharmaceutical will vary. That's why our review focuses on proven ingredients. However, if a claim is made that is clearly misleading based on factual evidence, it is considered a potentially misleading statement.

Maxaman makes strong safety claims when medical evidence supports the potential danger of Yohimbe. Yohimbe is not recommended by doctors who are skilled in alternative and complementary medicine and can be toxic.

"Yohimbe is not recommended because it has a very narrow therapeutic index. There is a relatively small dosing range, below it the herb doesn’t work and above it the herb is toxic. Side effects of normal dosages include dizziness, anxiety, hyperstimulation, and nausea. As little as 40 mg a day can cause a severe drop in blood pressure, abdominal pain, fatigue, hallucinations, and paralysis." Source: Natural Treatments for Erectile Dysfunction, Cathy Wong, N.D.

Recommendations

While both products include a variety of ingredients shown to be effective at increasing erection ability, size, firmness and help impotence, it must be noted that:

1) Maxaman's formulation contains fewer safe ingredients than the formulation used in Zenerx.

2) Maxaman contains the potentially dangerous Yohimbe (which is on the FDA's Warning list), which automatically excludes it from our recommended safe products buy list. We do recommend Zenerx.
